Ying ( Lin HsinYing )
Based in the UK and Taiwan
Lin HsinYing
Ying is a multidisciplinary artist. Her works include performance, painting, sculpture, photography, and video.
Her works raise questions about identity, race, gender and equality, particularly in relation to her cultural history. Her paintings explore an imaginal realm of dream-like spaces that are haunted by half-formed figures and mythic creatures. Her video and photographic works create thoughtful and complex narratives. They explore the world as experienced, juxtaposing her body with specific urban and rural landscapes, exploring what it means to adopt the voice of another to speak truth to power. Her works embrace cultural complexity. She plays with imagination and reality, weaving them together in a manner that challenges our more routine perceptions.
Her recent projects are inspired by the chaos of the world, by un-aligning things that are taken for granted. Her works are seen as attempts to loosen the established impression of history.
