River
Acrylic painting, 180cm x 210cm, 2021
My big-scale painting is fleshy and dreamy, it is the combination of reality and the solidified imagination, I paint on the canvas surface as an everyday ritual. I am fascinated by the fact that people believe in something and keep doing rituals. However, the work is about how we utilise religion, not about what’s inside of the religion itself.; physical labour is particularly important in this work, when all labour is assembled into a two-dimensional surface paint, the image is a mimicry of the symbols. The painting content is full of fleshy colours, because I think making the image sensory is important here: fragmented bodies, and metaphors of religion, sex, and the frustration of existence. Just as in ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’, the artist creates a worldview for viewers.
